Words for Wednesday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write, a story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it.

This month the words are supplied by me and can be found right here.

This week's words are:

kitchen
multiple
facility
wing
gourmet
straight

and/or

pancake
flipping
considered
decent
apart
weak

Have fun!  My story will appear at this site on Friday. If I can think of something.

  1. Up, up and away.....

"MULTIPLE orders were on the spikes above the KITCHEN work bench; and more were being brought in by the waiters by the minute.

Focus...focus...focus...and remember to breathe she told herself.

The uninitiated apprentice chef, STRAIGHT from college, was FLIPPING wafer-thin crepes in the PANCAKE pan as if he was a GOURMET chef of long-standing with years of experience.

When he’d applied for the job, at first, because of his cocky attitude, she had CONSIDERED not hiring him, but APART from his youthful gung-ho swagger and his WEAK attempt at a handshake when the interview came to an end, he seemed like a pretty DECENT kid underneath his transparent facade.

To her delight, immediately he showed he had a FACILITY to absorb details of what was required of him, so she was prepared to give him a fair go.

Anyway, time had been of the essence....there had been no time to waste. She was prepared to WING it and take a chance on him."

    1. It sounds as if the chance you took is paying off. Great use of the words.

    2. Lee; Excellent story, sometimes the things you take a chance on work out for the best. Doesn't do to judge a book by its cover.

    3. Bravo, bravo Lee. Of course you nailed this with so many kitchen ideas.

  3. 'I have told you the same things time and time again. Multiple times. And I doubt you have heard any of it. You have the facility to tune out anything don't you? Apart from the times your weak-willed father agrees to bail you out again of course.
You are winging it again aren't you. Surfing? Drumming? Art? None of them are real jobs, with the potential to offer you a decent lifestyle. Have you considered what your future will look like? No, I didn't think so. I will give it to you straight. Unless you change your ways you will spend your life in greasy kitchens flipping pancakes. If you are lucky. And there will be nothing gourmet about the flavours or the lifestyle your wages will offer ... Listen to me. I am telling you this for your own good..'

Whatever. Surf's up. See you later

    1. Hey! There's nothing wrong with being in kitchens flipping pancakes, as long as both pancakes and kitchens aren't greasy!! :)

Good one, EC. See ya! I'm off to catch a couple of waves, too.

    2. Elephant's Child; another excellent story. Mum's words falling on deaf ears. He'll regret not listening when he's forty and living off greasy diner food, still trying to catch that elusive big break.

    3. Sadly I don't flip pancakes, I microwave them. That keeps the kitchen from getting greasy. I have enjoyed your story now you go enjoy the surf.

  7. Here is my contribution. It is also on my blog with some pictures.

    CULINARY DREAMS by Granny Annie

    Competitive cooking time
    Each contestant in the KITCHEN
    Not a PANCAKE in sight.
    There would be no FLIPPIN'.

    Lots of skills were used.
    Meals by each GOURMET
    Showed off extravagance,
    No secrets to betray.

    The chefs never CONSIDERED
Use of such a great FACILITY.
Not even the fact of being chosen
    Exchanged arrogance for humility.

    Starting with a DECENT number,
    The challengers were MULTIPLE
    Until only two remained,
    Each feeling indestructible.

The meat was not of pichon
    But a giant Condor WING.
    Should it be torn APART
    Or tied up with string?

    Final contestants were WEAK
    But standing tall and STRAIGHT
    Each knew a great skill
    Would surely seal their fate.

(We all know the champion Chef was Lee right?)
